According to the producer of Far Cry 3, Dan Hay, the team behind the game has learned valuable lessons from Far Cry 2. “I played it and I loved it. But we went online, looked at what people were saying and decided things had to be tweaked.”
They are currently looking at the best features from games such as Splinter Cell and Far Cry 2 and combining them in what they describe as a living place. “We want our setting to feel like a living place. Not something you’re driving yourself, but something you just kind of get involved in,” says Keen. “You’ll see villagers doing something over there, or a fight happening over here, or a crash that’s happened. You’ll get a real feeling that the world is alive and that it’s going about its business when you’re not there.”
Reality was Far Cry 2’s greatest strength and the team is building on that saying that you no longer have to visit places such as Thailand or the Philippines anymore, you can now go to those places from the comfort of your home. Let’s hope they’re right, because in 2012 we find out.
