It appears as if Resistance 3 will be last game Insomniac Games is developing as the company will not be making a fourth game.
If Sony decides to continue the franchise, it’s likely a new studio will be taking over developmental duties instead. The PS Vita’s Resistance: Burning Skies will be developed by Californian indie studio Nihilistic.
Creative Director at Insomniac Games, Marcus Smith said:
“I think Insomniac has always branched out. I loved the Spyro the Dragon series when [Insomniac] did that. I didn’t work there at the time, and I was bummed when they didn’t work on the fourth game, but ultimately, I think it was healthy for them to move on. I think that’s what we’re seeing here.”
“We’ve done Resistance 3 and we’re really into it and proud of it, but we’re not currently slated to do a Resistance 4. So it would be hard to say it’s any kind of lynchpin within Insomniac”, added Smith. “I think we’re thriving and branching out in a lot of different directions.”
After finishing with Resistance 3, Insomniac Games will be focusing on its all-new I.P. announced earlier this year called Overstrike. Unlike all of its previous titles, Overstrike will be released for both the PS3 and Xbox 360. It is the first multi-platform game the studio has worked on.

August 28, 2011 at 12:03 AMThat’s good. The Resistance series should just end here in the 3rd installment. If later on Resistance 4 comes out I probably wont be buying it.

August 28, 2011 at 4:50 AMWe’ll see how 3 ends. Either way, it could still use a prequel for how the virus originated and spread through Russia and Europe. That could be 2 separate games. Also, the time gap between R2 and R3 could use a game.. or simply the same universe and time frame as the other games, but through other character’s adventures.
There’s plenty of substance to this universe that could be told in plenty more sequels and prequels.
