Jens Bergensten and Markus Persson have today revealed a few features and items, to look forward to when Minecraft beta 1.5 is released.
Firstly a few details on thunder storms were revealed; Jens announced that the lightening would set wood alight “but since it’s raining it will be put out again”. Alas he didn’t mention if this refers to just trees or anything made from wood, left out in a storm.
Afterwards Notch tweeted that “MUOAHAHA! Thunder Storms lower the brightness.” Why is this important? You may ask well he went on to explain “That means daytime monsters during storms. This is freakily atmospheric.” Certainly a twist meaning players will have to be on their guard even on the surface at daytime!
Jens also revealed a few new items that will be in beta 1.5 via tweeting about texture packs. Not only did he reveal the long awaited birch sapling by saying “Heads-up to texture packers: Slot (15, 3) is now spruce sapling and slot (15, 4) is birch sapling” but in addition he tweeted that powered rails will be in the update. Apparently powered rails will “either push or brake carts, depending on if they are on or not”.
With the new items, a weather system and a stats and achievement system the update will bring in loads of great content! What are your opinions on the new features? Comment below.
