Valve has today made a rather interesting statement about the way gamers may wish to play in the future. Apparently the final build of the PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2 Valves upcoming title includes “cross platform play” with PC and Mac owners. Not only does it offer this revolutionary multiplayer feature but it will also offer a “persistent cloud-based storage of PS3 saved games, and cross platform chat” between PS3 players and PC/Mac players.
For PS3 and PC gamers their luck is truly in with Portal 2 as well as the co-founder and president of Valve, Gabe Newell, stating that “the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product” Valve will be giving gamers who buy the PlayStation 3 copy a few code to download Portal 2 on the PC/Mac via Steam.
A few extra details on how this will all work were later explained by members of Valve. To gain the free PC/Mac copy all gamers will have to do once purchasing the PS3 copy is “at no additional cost linking their PSN and Steam accounts.” Linking the accounts is also the way that PC/Mac owners will also chat and game invite PlayStation 3 players and vice versa. Portal 2 will be release on PC, Mac, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this April since the recent delay.
