The whole jailbreaking scene on the PS3 has been pretty popular for the past few weeks with GeoHot releasing a 3.55 custom firmware on the PS3. The custom firmware that he released however does not support piracy but today, Waninkoko has finally released a custom firmware that does it all.
Waninkoko’s 3.55 custom firmware for the PlayStation 3 can now be found on the web but since we don’t support piracy, we will not post links to the said custom firmware that was released today.
For gamers who want to install Waninkoko’s custom firmware on the PS3, please take note that a lot of PS3s who have an onboard 256MB NAND chip are bricking after the custom firmware is installed. There is no way to unbrick the PS3 at this time so take caution when installing the custom firmware. With Waninkoko’s custom firmware, the PlayStation 3 will finally be able to install a lot of homebrew stuff without any limitations and especially the Back Up manager that allows pirates to pirate games.
As a reminder once again, install the custom firmware at your own risk and good luck getting banned by Sony!

Apparently Sony have been banning a lot of users in the last 24 hours.

January 18, 2011 at 3:32 AMHomebrews comes about when there is a deficiency or lack of functionality in the products. I’m sure Sony still gets buyers in store for their consoles (or bricked sets) and games even on web. The revenue levels does not entirely attribute to the set being affected by backups. Backups are as an added choice but of course governed by certain restrictions.
There would not be piracy if the games are priced at reasonable costs for the consumer. It just takes a balance of both original and those which is not to gauge or justify. If looking from a programmer kind of view, putting 7 or 8 gigs of game into a blueray 25gigs space (Which is found in backups) isn’t a very worth idea. It is a waste of space and money as we’ve not paid for a fully developed product or game.

January 18, 2011 at 6:58 AMDave makes a valid point. But on the flipside I’ve shelled out all of my money for my sole PS3. My original 60gb died and had to get it replaced with the same model. With that in mind I’m not about to risk a chance bricking or banning my PS3.
Although I’m interested in what the homebrews will offer such as (NTFS support, rumble support for all ps3 games, crossbar media function for all ps3 games, more codecs support, mozilla firefox browser replacing the ps3’s lackluster browser, a ps3 typing/printing program like office 2007, and better streaming stability from pcs to ps3s.
That’s all I’m interested in for the hacks. I’m not in it for illegal activity such as hacking or destroying other gamers fun. I think that’s cruel and senseless.
But then again Sony should have added these features in the first place instead of taking away features like other os….which I never used in the first place but I still liked the added feature. On top of that developers are selling incomplete games that have ticked gamers off for the longest. The hacking exploits is judgment for what they’ve done in the past to gamers (GTA 4 selling out, GT5 sucking, LAIR sucking, Haze sucking, Final Fantasy 13 selling out, developers not adding rumble support and crossbar media functions for previous ps3 games, and sony losing too many playstation exclusives because of greed.)
Sony has no one to blame but themselves for what Geohot has done. What goes around comes around my friend. :-)

January 18, 2011 at 11:40 AM@Dave and The Future of Sega,
I agree with you guys in some points, but you must look at the development of the PS3 point of view. When the PS3 first came out the developer did not think that those functions you mentioned in your post were important. Rumble did not get added because Sony do not own the patent rights to use it, and who the hell need Microsoft office 2007 support on a game machine??? You have a damn PC for that. Homebrew is actually Piracy because you have to download the an illegal copy of the games and play it, do you think Sony will put themself to be liable if they permited homebrew capabilities?
I use to work for a company that develope game in the Bay area (will not mention name) but the reasons for the high price of games are because they’re becoming more expensive to make (I dont like the extra DLC that we have to pay for after a game is release but oh well).
My point is, Homebrew and other OS is good but it will lead to piracy and this will lead hacking of gameplay. 95% PS3 owners who hack their ps3 will use it for pirating games that I guarantee.

Bricking consoles on purpose would be illegal, not only that but it could have other troubles (I.E. Lawsuits against Sony). Also And how the hell do you think these people will come back to pay for repairs when thecompany they bought their console from on purposely broke their console on purpose for a silly jailbreak that DOES NOT EVEN ALLOW PIRACY? Geohot already said that it was impossible to play backups on his firmware, and since this one bricks consoles it really doesn’t matter if this one can. You’re just another mindless sony fanboy who thinks he knows what he’s talking about when you clearly don’t.
One more thing, updates are not mandatory people have a choice in updating or not.

January 18, 2011 at 6:53 PM“Yeah Baby! firmware 3.60 and beyond cannot come soon enough”
Guess what? I can just turn off my network connection. Voila. Sony can’t do shit if my PS3 isn’t connected to the internet. What good PSN games does PS3 have anyways that aren’t riddled by d-bags online? Regardless, all of the good ones can be bought for PC for like $20 cheaper than what you pay for the PS3 version and the PC ports are usually far superior in quality IMO. So bring on firmware 4.0, or 5.0 , or version omega. I honestly couldn’t care less because it won’t affect me.

January 19, 2011 at 12:55 AMSilly retard the games you buy especially the newer ones will have the updates on the disk.
pip
January 19, 2011 at 11:09 AMUpdates on the disc will make no difference at all. The PS3 has been cracked wide open, it’s not a gate they can shut anymore beyond recalling every PS3 game ever sold and replacing them. Patches will just mean more CFW, and/or patches for new releases.
This is Sony’s own fault. The removal of OtherOS made them a target. Ironically it was probably Geohot’s work on cracking the OtherOS that led to it’s removal.
I won’t “jailbreak” my PS3, I have around 40 games and £400 spent on Downloadable items from the PS store and have no intentions of risking losing that. But removing a key feature and Sony’s inability to listen to what consumers actually want, removes any sympathy I had for them.

January 19, 2011 at 11:11 AM“Silly retard the games you buy especially the newer ones will have the updates on the disk.”
Poor soul, you obviously don’t understand programming. I can just update my custom software to account for any “security” features Sony adds in. It’s not that hard. Without some sort of network connection, anything Sony does to the code on a disc can just be undone with custom code on the PS3.
Besides, even if I couldn’t get any newer games from this point on I would still have 5 years worth of games to pick through. Go ahead, add up the dollar amount for that.

January 21, 2011 at 11:39 PMThe EFF and its authors can go fuck them selves as far as I’m concerned, this shit going on here is not about homebrew, linux, freedoms, rights or anything else for that matter, this is about sony protecting it’s interest like every company should. this asshole geodouche did nothing but open the door to a bunch of FaggLaggers that have done everything to fuck up online gaming, now sony tries to remedy this problem by implemeting security keys and people want to bitch about it, why the fuck don’t you assholes get mad at the fag who started all this shit.
