Since the release of Dragon Age: Origins on the major platforms a year ago, Bioware has brought us a decent amount of downloadable content to help expand the experience of the game.
There are a total of five add-ons that Bioware released, some of which are good and some of which are a waste of money. Now that Dragon Age 2 is coming in less than a year, we should expect fewer DLCs to be released for Origins.
Let’s take a look at the five downloadable contents available for Dragon Age Origins, ranked in order of best to worst.
#1 – Leliana’s Song
The recently released downloadable content for Dragon Age: Origins is the expansion that we’ve all been waiting for. After taking a break from the mindless hack-and-slash battle with no back story at all (Darkspawn Chronicles), Leliana’s Song manages to bring the kind of DLCs that Bioware should have done in the first place. Expect full voice-over cut scenes and character customizations in this DLC. It should take you at least two to three hours to finish the DLC.
Leliana’s Song gives players a brief history of Leliana’s past. The DLC will explain why she joined the Chantry and just how bad she was before the events of Origins.
#2 – The Stone Prisoner
Originally packed with the new copies of Dragon Age: Origins when it was first released, the Stone Prisoner is a downloadable content that adds a new character to the party. Shale is a Golem that will join the party after completing his quest. For players who didn’t get a chance to get this DLC for free, it is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network for $14.99.
The Stone Prisoner opens up new places to visit and people to interact with in the main campaign of Dragon Age: Origins.
#3 – Return to Ostagar
The death of King Cailan is a tragic one. In the Return to Ostagar DLC, players get a chance to go back to Ostagar and reclaim the armor of the late king. The DLC is part of the main campaign that opens up the Ostagar area after purchasing the DLC. It is a very brief DLCs but acquiring the king’s armor is one of the features of this expansion.
#4 – Warden’s Keep
For anyone who wants to have a supply chest, the Warden’s Keep DLC is something a player should get. Warden’s Keep is a short DLC that allows players to explore Soldier’s Peak. There is an interesting story behind this DLC, although it is not as good as Leliana’s Song.
#5 – Darkspawn Chroniclces
Sure, playing as a Hurlock in the Darkspawn Chronicles DLC is a cool thing to do, but not having a story behind the characters we get to play is a huge let down for gamers. The Darkspawn Chronicles DLC takes players into a whole different perspective, as the player will step into the shoes of a Hurlock and team up with other enemies in the game to defeat the Grey Wardens. Although this expansion had a lot of potential, it becomes a boring repetitive hack-and-slash after a short time.

July 8, 2010 at 6:37 PMthis is pretty cool, though i didn’t find Leliana THAT interesting as a character. Stone prisioner is awesome, Shale really kicks ass. Return to Ostagar sounds absolutely bad ass, the king’s armour looks wicked. Warden’s Peak sounds good as it has adds bit of history behind the Grey Wardens. and the Darkspawn Chronicles, well, this sorta reminds me of the ‘evil mode’ tha was on LOTR the Third Age. Mint idea. i only wish i had the cash

July 9, 2010 at 8:50 AMFair enough – my GF and I are playing Leliana’s Song now and we’re impressed so far (though Marjolane or whatever her name is looks exactly like our Origins character which puts my gf off a little).
Darkspawn Chronicles was interesting but once I played a bit at being evil there wasn’t much draw to it.
I thought Stone Prisoner and Warden’s Keep were on a par with each other. SP had all the base rewards (loot, a cool character) but I liked WK’s story better.
RtO was good despite some bugs (I dropped through a floor at one point and couldn’t get out) and definitely worth the £3 purchase.

February 20, 2015 at 4:27 PMAbout the ‘The Stone Prisoner’ DLC; I don’t quite approve of you saying ‘he’ about Shale. If you do certain quests, you find out more about this character’s background, and calling them ‘him’ flat out is, in my opinion, flat out wrong.
This DLC is free with the current Xbox Live download of Dragon Age: Origins, by the way! :D also, I really like Shale, an awesome character.
