LittleBigPlanet 2 has already dropped hints to how it will stand out from other Play Create Share games along with LBP1. Sony previously showed LittleBigPlanet being used with the PS Move but I believe it will be 3D that sets LBP2 apart.
While neither Media Molecule or Sony have released any details whether the game will or will not be in 3D there are a number of things that point towards it being so.
1) Da Vinci’s Glasses
If you closely studied the teaser trailer released after the leak you will notice after the Da Vinci’s Workshop Introduction level is highlighted a Da Vinci-like sack appears wearing none other than the blue and red 3D glasses. While the 3D Sony will be using is not the traditional blue and red, convincing people the newer “shades” 3D glasses were in fact 3D glasses and not just cool shades on a sackboy might have been harder.
2) A Platform ‘For’ Games
While LBP1 was all about creating your own platform game and creating a game with a different genre took a lot of dedication it comes as no surprise that with the second the floor is opened up for creators to build whatever they like. Although platform games can get away with the 2.5D gaming that LBP1 offers it may not let all genres excel. You still won’t be able to create in 3D but with the new behind sackboy camera that has been rumored 3D would really make levels more believable giving the player the right atmosphere the creator intended.
3) Sony Owns Mm
Not only does the company being owned by Sony ensure the game is a PS3 exclusive it also means Sony can push its technology on it. Sony has already got many big titles to either add 3D into existing games with DLC or to incorporate it into the game pre-launch titles such as Gran Turismo 5, so I see no reason for LBP2 not to include 3D.
Will Sony release a game of LBP2’s potential not with 3D which is arguably the future of the gaming industry? I certainly don’t think so and I think we can all be sure when we say we will see more of LBP2 at E3. Just whether or not in 3D remains the to be the question.
