Now that the actual hardware of the 3DS is out in the open, it’s about time we saw some cartridges, right? Especially since there’s been a lot of speculation that they might be, well, enormous. Actually, not the case.
It actually looks fairly similar to a DS cartridge, as you can see from the comparison. The only real difference is the little notch that sticks out at the top. You’ve got to wonder what that’s for though…
Keep checking back for more news on Nintendo’s amazing looking handheld.

June 18, 2010 at 2:33 PMI’d have to think the little notch on the 3DS cartridge is so that people won’t insert them in regular a DS. It’s sort of similar to the slight change made from gameboy to gameboy color games, that’s just me hazarding a guess though.

June 18, 2010 at 4:05 PMAgree with sokmonkey, that’s pretty much exactly what it’s for. They wouldn’t be able to fit anything in that small area anyways. They kept it the same size though so it would be compatible with previous DS titles.

March 1, 2011 at 11:18 PMI’m pretty sure they won’t discontinue the DS games until after about one and a half years after the 3ds anyway.

July 11, 2011 at 6:54 PMOkay so i’m going mad about why the 3Ds costs about the same as a DSi, which I have right now. I can’t see why the little end sticks out, because it’s just annoying. I want to know if anything is in that thing sticking out so I can just cut if off, considering I bought a 3Ds game…

July 3, 2012 at 12:56 PMYou know what Nintendo are doing?
They are making great fun looking games that are only for 3ds!
So they make people keep buying new consoles just like the iPhone! Well I think the way they created Xbox kinect was a great idea so why can’t Nintendo do that? it’s a waste of money buying new consoles that they make every year till all the other things you had are just left there and unused.

I wonder how many people reading this are aware that Japan doesn’t make it’s own machine parts anymore? Since 2005 or so Japan has outsourced their goods like the USA so now Japan gets the same cheap crap that we do.
Nintendo parts are from China using slave labor where people work 12+ hours a day in very harsh conditions just to have food on the table much like the direction Japan and the USA are going.
Look up the controversy about Fox Con where a lot of IPod and Apple products are made! There is very sick stuff going on over there.
All our older electronics Made in Japan have lasted us well beyond it’s life time. I STILL have a working Zenith TV from Montgomery Wards before they went belly up around the year 2000 well before 9/11 tried to ruin the economy.
