A new Red Faction title announced for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade will serve to promote the upcoming Red Faction: Armageddon.
The announcement was made by THQ VP Danny Bilson revealing that it would be released around 3-4 months before Red Faction: Armageddon:
There’s going to be a Red Faction Arcade game that ships about three or four months before Armageddon. What’s interesting is that we will sell it to the fans, it will have content you can download that is TV show-related, it will build up to the new game and also we can use it to drive pre-orders, too; we can give codes and aspects of it, we can give the whole thing away.
No further details were given regarding the downloadable title. It was unveiled at this recent E3 that Armageddon is slated for March 2011 so the downloadable Red Faction title could release as early as later this year.
The strategy definitely reminds of what Capcom did for Bionic Commando and Bionic Commando: Rearmed. As good as Rearmed was, I can’t really say if it did much to boost the console Bionic Commando sales. Let’s just hope Red Faction: Armageddon doesn’t follow the same scenario as the console Bionic Commando and be at least on par if not better than the downloadable title.
