Fans of the cult sci-fi series Doctor Who could be flying around in their own big blue box, according to the British Broadcasting Corporation Worldwide, who revealed recently that they are looking for publishers, and likely developers, to release games based around the television series’ Top Gear, In The Night Garden, and, of course, Doctor Who on Nintendo’s Wii and DS.
We’ve been reactive to the market in the last few years. There were a few opportunistic licensing deals, but we were largely aggregating and holding onto our properties to wait and see how the market developed.
– Dave Anderson, Head of BBC Worldwide Multimedia Development
As video-games have become more and more a part of mainstream society in recent years, it seems as if the BBC wishes to expand it’s earning with a plan like this. The BBC iPlayer Channel is already available on the Wii, and episodes of Doctor Who always make their way onto the iPlayer. It is highly possible, so keep you’re eyes peeled for any news of any of these famous BBC series’ making their way to a gaming console near you.
