In the first to two years of its release, the Wii dominated the sales charts. In the year 2009 however the Wii had a dip in sales, coupled with the fact the both Sony and Microsoft are releasing their own motion sensing controllers sometime this year most people in the industry are thinking that a new Nintendo console or perhaps even a HD upgrade of some kind was in the works. This however is not the case; during an interview with Bloomberg BusinessWeek Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime had this to say “We are confident the Wii home entertainment console has a very long life in front of it.”
The slump in sales previously mentioned was not so much an issue during the holiday season in which Nintendo had record sales thanks to such titles as Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit plus and of course New Super Mario Bros.. Nintendo is also hoping that the new installments of Metroid and Super Mario Galaxy will move even more systems.
Things are not looking as bleak Nintendo thought and with the new Legend of Zelda coming up in the future their sales dominance may just rule on for the rest of the generation
