LittleBigPlanet: Pirates of the Caribbean DLC Review

If there is one game on the PlayStation 3 that constantly receives a downloadable content pack, it would be Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet. Before the holiday kicks in, SCEA released the newest level pack that features elements from the popular movie; Pirates of the Caribbean. Two content packs were released; a Costume pack and five levels that will give you the fun and excitement that you are looking for.

How does Pirates of the Caribbean DLC stand out from the rest of the level packs that was released in the past? Let’s take a look in the HOTs and NOTs:

HOT

Water Level
Pirates of the Caribbean DLC features the first water level where you can swim around. There are approximately five levels that will use this feature. Playing through all of the levels reminded me of Super Mario games. Since the theme of this DLC is Pirates of the Caribbean, you will spend most of the time under water collecting those stickers and decorations that you can use for your own created levels, or personal pods.

New Things to Use
Expect to see more then 100 stickers, decorations, and costumes altogether. As always, you can use these whenever you want once you get them. There will be parts of the level where you need four people to collect a piece of item by solving the puzzle. It is highly recommended that you play with at least one friend if you want a 100% collection in each level. Make sure that you get all of those worthy items in your collection such as the fish enemy, octopus, and the guards that you can use when you create your own levels.

Great Soundtrack
The popular soundtrack from Pirates of the Caribbean can be listened to here. It has been edited, but as you play through the five levels you will be feeling that you really are indeed Jack Sparrow trying to take down Davy Jones and the Krakken, the final boss of the DLC. The soundtracks that you will hear on the five levels can be used to create your own levels as well.

Trophies
The Pirates of the Caribbean DLC contains eleven trophies that you can unlock. There are nine bronze and two silver trophies that will be yours by just playing the five levels and achieving a high score on the diving trial contest. It will take a couple of times running through the levels to fully complete this DLC.

Fun Fun Fun
With the new costumes, five new levels, and items that you can use to create your own levels, there is no reason for you not to have fun. Playing through the story mode of the DLC should take around 2 hours as it may take a couple of run through to get a 100% completion in each level. The final boss is a very interesting one to finish and is defiantly a fan pleaser!

NOT

We want more!
It feels like the DLC is too short, but it’s been always like that. I just wish more DLCs like this will be released. Costumes might be a little bit expensive, but it’s alright, they are worth it. You will have fun anyways.

VERDICT

Editor's Choice AwardSpending $12 on both Costume and Level pack on the Pirates of the Caribbean DLC is a must for fans. The new items and the ability to create your own levels using WATER is a nifty addition and shouldn’t be missed by people who love to create, share, and play. If you are a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean or you just want the WATER tool kit on your masterpiece level that you’re working on, this DLC is a must have no doubt.

  2. The Pirates of the Carribean DLC looks amazing! I can’t wait to play it. I hope MM makes more of these DLC levels in the future!

  3. Pirates of the Caribbean? Kind of strange to see themed DLC released a few years after the movie.

  4. I love Pirates of the Caribbean an LittleBigPlanet, so this is a great dlc pack. I just played a water level created by the LBP community it was so great, I love how the little sackboy drowns.

  5. Media Molecule has done an amazing job at keeping little big planet fresh with dlc. I may have to buy captain jacks costume before I pick up the level pack. It wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t.

  6. Have to agree, definately worth buying and will take a while to ace and collect everything, well worth the money :)

  7. The Pirates of the Carribean DLC looks amazing!! Will give it a try when I am home. LBP Fans get a rather Wet Christmas:D

  8. Amazing review, I agree with you it’s a little bit expensive, but it’s worth it. Besides, we get WATER!!!! and so much more amazing comunity levels *-*

  9. Sweet, I usually just pass over the LBP DLC assuming it just contains more costumes. But I am for buying this to play the new levels and see how the water works. I thought the first water levels would be an official level pack DLC.

  10. looks nice, might want to adsk for this for a late christmas present. Im have been looking forward for WATER for a while now. I need somthing else to play other than COD

  11. The water is definately a very nice addition, visually as well as the game play goes. I was expecting another level pack comparable to MGS though, in length as well as difficulty, extras and costumes. In my opinion all the costumes that are being sold seperately should most definately have been included in the games as prizes, in hard to reach bubbles or for acing a particularly hard level, like in LBP and MGS. In that regard I was a little disappointed. All in all though I’d say it’s a step in the right direction that has taken, IMHO, much too long. The game in itself has so much potential that is not being constuctively used by the creators. Less stickers and decorations to buy etc. etc. and more “good” level packs where you can “earn” them!

  12. great review. After reading this i’m certianly HOT on those packs.I hope for more packs like this!I’m counting on MM for next packs.

Pleeeeeeeeeease send me a code for pack!!!I need it!! I wanna be a sack pirate!!

  13. Thanks for the review, now I’m definitely going to give it a try. BTW, if you still have a code, it would be much appreciated
