The ability to create your own levels is the biggest selling point of Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet 3. Since its launch on PS3, gamers who loved have LittleBigPlanet demanded a portable version of the game. This week, the much anticipated LittleBigPlanet is finally arriving on the PSP.
Let me say this before starting the review, LittleBigPlanet on the PSP is not a straight port of the PlayStation 3 version. The game offers different levels, costumes and a lot more. With that being said, is LittleBigPlanet PSP a worthy game? Does it lives up to its predecessor? Let’s take a look in the HOTs and NOTs of the game:
HOT
New Levels, Costumes, and Stickers
The portable version of LittleBigPlanet offers new levels and costumes. There are a total of 30 levels in the game that are all new and I am sure everyone will love. The game offers the same mechanics where you have to pass through the level and get the bubbles, stickers, and costumes as you complete the level. The experience from the PS3 version is well retained here.
Sharp Graphics
Comparing the graphics from the PS3 to the PSP version of LittleBigPlanet, you will be amazed at how detailed the graphics are. LittleBigPlanet on the PSP offers vivid graphics and I must say that it is one of the best looking games PSP. You won’t notice any difference between the PS3 and PSP versions. As for the levels, I love the new layout and the construction of it.
Download Levels and Play
One of the things that people love about LittleBigPlanet is the ability to create your own level and upload it or download other people’s levels and play them! The things that you get from the single player mode of the game can be used to design your very own LittleBigPlanet. After doing so, you can upload it to the server for everyone to download and play. If a gamer likes your level, they can rate it. The only difference between the PS3 and the PSP version of the game is that LittleBigPlanet PSP doesn’t stay connected to the PlayStation Network while you’re playing single-player mode.
Play it anywhere else
The freedom to play LittleBigPlanet on the go is great, some would even argue this game was meant to be mobile. The best thing about this title is that with the PSP’s Wi-Fi, you can connect to the server wherever there’s a WiFi connection and download levels on the go!
Tons of DLC Coming
LittleBigPlanet for the PSP will be getting the same treatment as the PS3 version when it comes to downloadable content. During the game’s launch, there will be costumes that will be available. If you have pre-ordered the game then you probably already have received your download code for the Uncharted 2 Nathan Drake and Chloe costumes, as well as Killzone’s Helghast. Expect more DLs (costumes, and levels) to come your way in the future.
NOT
Long loading times (UMD)
If you are thinking of getting the game on UMD, you might want to rethink that decision, the load times are absolutely dreadful. Loading levels in single player mode can take up to 45 seconds. I am sure if you buy the PSN version of the game, these long load times will be cut shorter.
No personal Pod for Sackboy
Don’t expect any personal pod when it comes to dressing up Sackboy. With the PSP version of LittleBigPlanet, it seems that they took out Sackboy’s personal pod where he can design the pod with stickers, and accessories. Instead, to customize Sackboy’s look, all you have to do is navigate it through the menu which is a bit boring.
VERDICT
LittleBigPlanet on the PSP is one of the games that is worth purchasing. The ability to create, share, and play are the three words that LittleBigPlanet lives by and somehow, the PSP version manages to live up to that motto. Gamers who are looking for unlimited levels in a platformer game, LittleBigPlanet is a definite choice for you. Not only does this game offer superb graphics, it’s guaranteed that by the end of the day, you will have a lot of fun with it.

November 17, 2009 at 6:22 AMSomehow I think this will work better on the PSP than PS3… I never had the time to make levels on PS3… My PSP however can be with me all the time, a sneaky level at work, in bed… on the bus… Think this is a new PSP must play!

November 17, 2009 at 11:00 AMOkay, here it is. Game is totally awesome. I dont have PS3, but the PSP version of Little Big Planet, is the same as the PS3 original. Only we dont have a multiplayer but…When you play play this game in work, do you have a friend who have the LBP & PSP ? Propably not. To play multiplayer you play on PS3. Easy… :D
The level creation is awesome, the Sackboy and his customization is fantastic. Graphics and gameplay, music…All, in case is propably the best title on the PSP console right now, maybe ever. So go back to your Sackboy and PLAY, CREATE, SHARE and have FUN. :)
