Today at their E3 press conference, Microsoft revealed that on top of a variety of other new features for the Xbox 360, that the console will finally receive a web browser, Internet Explorer. This browser looks to be optimized specifically for the Xbox 360, rather than a lazy, slow port of a browser, like we have seen on other consoles.
Were you thinking that after all this time without an internet browser on the Xbox 360 that you would finally be able to visit your favorite site JustPushStart.com from the comfort of your couch? Well you better re-think your plans if you are not an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, as it will only be available to them, instead of all users.
This “Xbox Live Gold” membership mentality seems to continuously be taking over when it comes to apps on the Xbox 360. With that being said, don’t expect apps for the console to in the future be available to all Xbox Live users. Unfortunately for those not fond of Internet Explorer, there are no current plans for any other browser such as Firefox or Google Chrome to be made available (as somewhat expected).

October 23, 2012 at 8:11 AMI agree with you on the Gold mentality but feel the other browsers comment was unnecessary. Where is Firefox or Chrome for the other consoles? Why do they need them? Back to Gold, I refuse to pay for gold after only paying for 2 years. I think it’s stupid! The only games I want to play online are Borderlands and Gears. Both are available on PC. Why pay? Also I already pay for Netflix, Youtube is free, I pay for my cable service. It makes no sense to have a pay wall. I’ve been only really using my XBOx for Dance Central 2 and now it’s on to 3. offline!

October 24, 2012 at 7:29 PMBS that IE requires Live Gold. Another reason PS3 is far superior. I’m surprised Xbox doesn’t require Gold in order to power on at all.
