Pinch me, I must be dreaming. Current rumors state that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 may find its way into homes worldwide after all. Stalker-GSU.ru claims to have obtained a statement from Sergei Grigorovich, owner of GSC World.
It is revealed that Bethesda has been sold the license for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Here’s the statement auto-translated:
I realized that this concept of the STALKER will not be of interest to many players and decided to [cancel development]. Announcement will not be shown instead, all that the team managed to do without me. STALKER brand into the hands of Bethesda Games. I’m leaving the game development.
If this is in fact true, then we can all rejoice in the fact that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 could be released one day. PS3 development issues aside, Bethesda could craft the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series into an even greater free roam experience given their latest open-world achievements. However, current fans of the game may not wish to see Bethesda “streamline” the experience they’ve come to know and love.
Whether you currently play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or if you’re just now hearing about it, what’s your take on this new acquisition, assuming it’s true? Let us know in the comment section below.

April 26, 2012 at 1:54 AMAs long as they don’t muddle up the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. formula by making it more like Skyrim (like they did with Fallout and Oblivion), and keep the same atmosphere and gameplay that made the series so good…
WOOHOO

Oh sweet God, Peter and Paul no.
Keep your horrid little hurrr-wort-eez-atmosphere horse armor fingers off of my S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Bethesda.

April 26, 2012 at 6:34 AMNO! S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is too good for Bethesda, anything not made by Bethesda game studios gets screwed over by them.
And even then I would like to see S.T.A.L.K.E.R. stay as a Ukrainian game, I don’t want a bunch of American voices.

May 8, 2012 at 12:29 AMNOOOOOO! bethsoft has already got a post-apocalyptic IP. THey don’t have easy access to the ukraine, and will likely “make it more accessible” (read: RUIN IT) i love bethsoft but stalker is fun because you can get your butt kicked by random wildlife. I love the fact that you can’t run into an enemy camp spraying rounds, a la evergreen mills in f3. Part of what made stalker fun was the fact that it didn’t hold your hand the entire game
