Assassin’s Creed III’s creative director Alex Hutchinson told GDC attendees that players are thrust right into the heart of the action upon starting up the game.
“Within 30 seconds of putting the disc in the tray, you’ll be assassinating someone.”
Besides simply providing players with an epic intro, the developers are following a new set of guidelines in order to ensure that the game stays relevant and gratifying. Also, by starting the killing right away, players will get to immediately see the changes to combat and other mechanics tied to Connor. As you may know already, the hidden blades are gone and our new hero uses a tomahawk instead.
This is just one of the new mechanics replacing on older one. The reason for this is because the developers wanted to move away from aspects of the older games they believed to be “weak”.
“It’s hard when the story is consistent, to remove things. You can’t remove things from the fiction, and that meant we had problem with mechanics that weren’t as tight as could have been… a new character and new universe means we can strip it back and go back to basics.”
So, there you have it. A brand new experience awaits AC fans and, after 3 games about the same character, I’m sure everybody is ready for something fresh. Assassin’s Creed III will release on PC, Xbox 360, PS3 on October 30th (Wii U version may or may not release the same day).

March 10, 2012 at 4:55 AMThe Hidden Blade is Iconic in the series. Connor hasnt been shown actually using it yet but its on the main box cover. AC3 without a hidden blade is like half life 2 without the gravity gun.

March 10, 2012 at 11:43 AMNo hidden blades would be like a CoD game without boob tubes.
