Alan Kertz, the Core Gameplay Designer on Battlefield 3, has today revealed that DICE tried other, less successful, methods of recoil.
When a Battlefield 3 player suggested that DICE try out “dynamic recoil” rather than initial kickback on weapons Kertz swiftly responded “We tried dynamic recoil, the gun feels completely out of control no matter what”, adding “great theory, not great in practice.” So it seems the initial kick despite being slightly annoying is there to stay.
