Bungie left the Halo franchise to work on another yet to be named IP. 343 Industries has taken over and it seems they will change the look of Master Chief in Halo 4.
Halo franchise director Frank O’Connor was interviewed by CVG confirming Master Chief will undergo some changes in Halo 4.
em>”There’s some fairly radical modifications to his armor,” O’Connor said. “Some of those are an artistic evolution, but some are connected to the story. We just can’t talk about it yet. He’s been in space for a long time.”
Master Chief isn’t the only character that will appear different in Halo 4. Cortana will appear different to when we last saw her in the final moments of Halo 3.
“Seven years is the lifespan for a smart AI before it enters a state called rampancy,” O’Connor said. “Cortana was getting close to the end of her natural lifespan at the end of Halo 3 but she has been exposed to far more information than any other AI in existence. She’s going to develop some muscle from that process but it also contributes to her rampancy – that much information makes things worse.”
Let’s hope they don’t alter the appearances of both characters too much. The worst thing they can do is actually reveal the face of Master Chief.
Halo 4 is expected for release late 2012 exclusively for the Xbox 360. It will be the start of a whole new trilogy for the franchise.
