For those who have been following Battlefield 3, you may remember the portion of the game’s live demo during E3 this year where the soldier was holding the dinosaur toy in front of him.
This sparked a slew of rumors online stating that the dinosaur was a response to 4chan’s comedic thread complaining about the lack of dinosaurs in Modern Warfare 3. So, yes, this started with 4chan (go figure). Things continued to build off of this and led to the belief that Battlefield 3 would be receiving a dinosaur mode.
Well, it’s time to finally put all of this to rest. Patrick Bach, Battlefield 3’s Producer, decided to clear up the dinosaur’s origins and even commented on if it had anything to do with the 4chan origins.
“Well,
I can’t confirm or deny that part of it. But the official story is that we wanted to connect the player to the world back home. We had this idea of having a photograph of your family, that wasn’t the end goal, but that was the mental picture behind it; we wanted you to think about the ones you love at home. We wanted to find a metaphor for that and find a visual language for that and we had this toy dinosaur on a desk at the office and we thought about what it would be like if you actually brought something that your child gave you to war. That would give you the feeling that you not only have a son or daughter but you have a wife and the illusion that you have a family back home. Bringing a toy to war would also be a good symbol for toys in war and how it’s contradictory and gives you vulnerability. So that’s it. That’s the official story. It’s not the unofficial story but yes, we’ve seen that thread to refer to.”
So, there you have it. Part joke, part drama.
Be sure to pick up your copy of Battlefield 3 when it hits store shelves tomorrow.

I haven’t finished the game, but i Know how to get into the stories of the games, or movies get me? I know how to feel like I’m the character I’m playing or watching, and when I played that part when he was holding the dinosaur and his buddy said, something like ‘you’ll be out of here soon to see your kid’, That part made me think of all the soldiers out there wishing they could see their families. later on in the game when that terrorist kills him, that part made me feel sad/mad lol even though its a game.
