EVE Online developers CCP games have recently sent out emails apologising for the developers past conduct and offering players who return to the stars of EVE a massive discount as an incentive.
EVE Online was hit by controversy this summer when CCP released the newest expansion for the MMO: Incarna. Swathes of EVE Online veterans begrudged having to use the convoluted method of docking which was seemingly only present to show off whatever over-priced in-game clothes users had bought. Today CEO of CCP games Hilmar Veigar Pétursson apologised to the EVE Online community for, what many players viewed his actions as, a complete betrayal of EVE’s player base.
“The estrangement from CCP that many of you have been feeling of late is my fault, and for that I am truly sorry,” the letter begins.
In addition to the humble apology from the head guy at CCP, EVE Online will now be a little cheaper as a ‘we’re sorry’ gift to those who jumped ship during the controversy. CCP sent out emails to those who recently stopped playing, tempting users with a reduced fee of $4.95 for 30 days instead of the usual $14.95 rate.
From what I’ve witnessed of the EVE Online scandals recently, CCP deserves to be begging at this point, but it’s good to see a company admit their wrongs and do so much to try and amend them. Disgruntled gamers take note – sometimes if you complain loud enough the company might just listen.
