Now that you have picked up Deus Ex and picked your playstyle of choice, it’s time to give you some tips as to how you can survive as an assault player in the world of Human Revolution. Believe it or not, assault is not the easiest way to go in Human Revolution. Death comes quickly for those who aren’t well prepared. So here are some tips to prolong your life while playing as an assault character in Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
1. Take Cover
See that desk in front of you and that guy getting ready to pull the trigger? Rather than running towards him and taking bullets to the chest, use that desk as cover and pop him from safety. Going John Rambo on an entire group of enemies is not advisable until you are able to upgrade your armor in order to take more bullets. For now, use cover to conduct your assaults on foes so you don’t have to look at the load a checkpoint screen multiple times.
2. Upgrade Your Augmentations
The first thing you should do is upgrade your armor in order to have the ability to resist more damage so you don’t go down as quickly. You should also invest in weapon stability to lessen the recoil when firing so you can continue to stay trained on your target. Use these and you will have a better chance at surviving in this future warzone. The Typhoon weapon system is also a nice diversion should you want to have a little fun with your enemies. Turn on invisibility then run into a group of enemies and activate it for amazing devastation.
3. Use Weapon Mods
Weapon modifications will be your best friend as an assault character. Once you find a weapon you love stick to it and upgrade it to it’s highest level. Once you do this, you will have an easier time clearing out a room full of enemies without breaking a sweat. Remember to use the weapon’s unique mod if it has one. An assault rifle with homing flechette rounds can be helpful if you are pinned down in cover. Explosive rounds in the revolver are also a savior when you come up against heavily armored opponents.
4. Prioritize Threats
First of all thank you to fellow writer Josh Garibay for this tip. Find the man with the biggest gun…and kill him first. Take out long range characters before you go for close quarters enemies. Take out guys with rockets before the small fry. In a nutshell: if he has a huge gun, he has painted a giant red target on his body. Happy hunting.
5. Trust No One
If you see the yellow alarmed icon pop up on an enemy and he gives you a warning, send him to an early grave. Chances are he will fire as soon as you turn your back on him. Save him the bullets and put one in him. Chances are this chances are whoever is giving the warning stands between you and your objective and if you are playing an assault character that means you aren’t in the mood for delays. He will tear like paper when you start throwing bullets his way. Just make sure you nail his friends too before they get in too close for comfort…
