Microsoft has announced that it has bought VOIP chat service, Skype for $8.5 billion as revealed earlier in a press release.
The program will support both Xbox and Kinect, along with connecting Skype users on Xbox Live. Windows Phone integration was also mentioned.
“Skype is a phenomenal service that is loved by millions of people around the world,” said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. “Together we will create the future of real-time communications so people can easily stay connected to family, friends, clients and colleagues anywhere in the world.”
For those wondering, this purchase shouldn’t affect Skype users not using the service through a Microsoft device/system (such as PSP), with Steve Ballmer’s team promising to continue “to invest in and support Skype clients on non-Microsoft platforms.”
