Robert Bowling has today announced that the next Infinity Ward Call of Duty title will remain on the same engine, as previous COD titles.
When asked if IW would be building from the “ground up” Bowling responded that he thought that it “would be counter productive” for the game. He went on to explain that a decent engine “takes years and years to develop and get right.” This being the case, the current engine that Call of Duty titles are created on is in fact the Call of Duty 2 engine: although of course it has been substantially tweaked.
Will Call of Duty manage to fend of Battlefield 3 or is it time that IW build a brand new engine to take the FPS genre by storm? Comment your opinions below.

March 2, 2011 at 3:58 PMIf it is IW3 (mw1, w@w, black oops) I am not buying it. Period.
If it is not MW2 built upon, IE: IW4 engine, I am not buying it. Period.

March 2, 2011 at 11:25 PMI think that’s ridiculous. We need a new engine as I am tired of this same crap. If not a new engine, at least make a huge improvement in terms of gameplay and depth of maps.
COD series is going to be in big trouble if Modern Warfare 3 fails because fans are tired of the same product coming out. Only thing different is each game comes with more bugs. The Modern Warfare 3 website http://mwarfare3.com/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-3-to-do-300-million-in-sales-162 says the game will do $300 million.
