Ever since the motion control gaming became a hit with the Nintendo Wii, a plethora of fitness games started popping out. Some have been gimmicky while others actually work such as EA Sports Active on the Nintendo Wii. Sony introduced the PlayStation Move a couple of weeks ago, and its very first fitness game for the hardware is now available. Get Fit with Mel B is a fitness game exclusively made for the PlayStation Move that fully utilizes the PlayStation Eye camera and the PlayStation Move controller.
With so many gimmicky fitness games available on major consoles, does Get Fit with Mel B really work for anyone who wants to consider doing aerobics and toning up their body without going to the gym? Let’s take a look in the HOTs and NOTs of the game.
HOT
Players Must be Dedicated
Before you even think of picking this game up, make sure that you are dedicated to be fit and that losing your weight is a strong priority. Get Fit with Mel B will not magically make the player fit and toned without doing all of the hard work. Thanks to the hard efforts of Mel B, players can now do aerobics and cardio thanks to the power of the PlayStation Eye.
Over 200 Aerobic, Dance, and Cardio Exercise
Just because Mel B is the lead star of the game, it doesn’t mean that it’s solely for women. With over 200 exercises that you can do, a guaranteed fit and toned body is an achievable result. Depending on the type of the body, weight, and age of the player who will play this game, a series of exercises will be laid out to the player. If it doesn’t fit to the taste of the players, a customized exercise routine can be created where a player can change the length of exercise, a number of repetitions, and the order of the exercises that will be done. Exercises includes jumping jacks while doing squatting, ice skating, and a lot more.
Personal Experience
I’ve had Get Fit with Mel B for almost two weeks now. Since then, I’ve been using it everyday for a whole thirty minute workout. For players who are not use to exercising, expect to feel some muscle pain after the first day of extreme exercise. As I’m doing a personal workout at the gym a couple of times every week, doing the exercise with Mel B wasn’t that hard, but for my mom who doesn’t really exercise much she felt ome pain on her feet…
Techonology of the PlayStation Move
When playing Get Fit with Mel B, using the PlayStation Move controller is highly recommended to track real time performance. The game can be played without the Move controller but the system won’t be able to recognize the move and give the player the statistics they want to see such as how many calories are burned. Before a player can start the intense workout, the game must scan the body physics of the player three times from center, left, and right. Following the scanning, the player will then choose the workout routines and off to the thirty to whatever amount of minutes of workout a player can do.
Nutrition Meals
Included in the game are recipes for anyone who wishes to lose weight and burn those calories off with the game. Expect a lot of recipes for delicious food that contain less calories. The food included here is good for anyone who wants to get on the diet program. From breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack meals, anyone can just go to the Nutrition Menu and jot down the ingredients. To fully take advantage of the game, eating less than 1200 calories is recommended to actually lose weight while doing the exercises in the game.
Use Personal Training Equipments
Prior to starting the game, Mel B will ask if the player has any training equipment such as elastic strength band to use with the workout. If a player doesn’t have those, it’s okay as it’s not really required. For those gamers who do have the equipments mentioned in the game, more exercises solely for that equipment will be available to fully strengthen those muscles.
Cheap Personal Trainer
At a low price of $39.99, fans will be able to hire their own private personal trainer. There is now no need for expensive personal trainer plus gym membership! By purchasing the game, the player is hiring Mel B as their own private trainer and she will take the players in every step in losing the fats.
NOT
Not an Alternative for a Gym
While Get Fit with Mel B actually works for those who wants to lose weight and do cardio, it won’t build muscles and make the person really toned. Going to the gym and lifting weights are the best bet for anyone who wishes to have a very toned body and muscles.
Can Still be Cheated
As with every fitness game, it’s easy to cheat in the game. While the PlayStation Eye easily tracks the movement with the Move controller, it’s entirely possible to move around the wand and make the game think you’re actually doing it. But remember, cheating yourself won’t get you that toned body you’ve all been longing for!
VERDICT
Get Fit with Mel B can be considered as one of the best Fitness games to hit the market aside from EA Sports Active. While the exercises work great for anyone who wishes to lose weight and get fit, it’s still not a replacement for a real gym. With over 200 exercises and customizable workout routines, that fit body is in the grasp of your hands only if you are dedicated in achieving that goal. At a price of $39.99, you are not only hiring a personal trainer, you are also giving yourself some slack in driving up to the gym.

Really man. Do you honestly think that people think playing a video game is a replacement for the real thing? Do you think playing COD is like shoot a real gun in war? Do you thnik people playing Madden think it’s a replacement for playing outdoor football? LOL!

That’s completely different. COD is a war simulator (if you can even call it that), you pretend to fight in a war. Madden is an American football simulator, you pretend to play American football. This game is not claiming to be an exercise simulator. What would be the point of a game which allows you to pretend to exercise?
