There’s rumblings that Microsoft is interesting in buying out Electronic Arts. According to options strategist Fredric Ruffy, “There’s talk that Microsoft might be interested in acquiring Electronic Arts. It’s unsubstantiated chatter, but it’s out there.”
If this were to happen, it would mean big changes in the gaming world. EA has always been a multiplatform company, they have modeled all of their business around the production and sale of the same game on all platforms. How strange would it be to see Madden with an “Only For Xbox 360” stamp on the front cover? For now this is just a rumor, but let’s hope for everyone’s sake it stays that way. EA going exclusive to one company would leave a lot of gamers out of the loop, which could very well hurt the franchises we’ve come to love from them.
