The Game Awards wasn’t the only awards show this year because Australia staged its own show called the Australian Games Awards.
This is the first year for the show and it was a huge success. Over 10,650 watched the show on Twitch with thousands of more viewers watching on other streams and locations.
The hashtag #TheAGAs was trending for several hours when the show was on earlier this week. Not to mention the show gave awareness to many Australian developed games.
The Australian Games Awards was different to The Game Awards because Red Dead Redemption 2 won the ‘Game of the Year’ award. The Game Awards awarded that moniker to God of War instead.
Comments from the organizer was posted in a press release. You can read his comments posted down below.
Speaking on the inaugural event, Australian Games Awards Producer, Joel Van Daal said, “We are thrilled with the success of the first ever event. The community engagement and broadcast numbers were great for a first-time event.
Van Daal added, “We want to thank the community for their support throughout the awards process, from nominations to voting to the broadcast their time and opinions matter, and we thank them for it. We wanted to give the Australian Games Community their own voice, and they spoke loudly.”
The organizers feel the 2018 show was a huge success and they will be back to do it all over again in 2019. You can check out the full list of winners below.
