Normally big companies like to announce how many units or copies a certain product they are releasing have sold around the world. For example, Epic Games likes to boast how many players are playing Fortnite while in the movie industry studios announce how much money a film has made. Weirdly enough, Microsoft is still being quiet about the worldwide sales of the Xbox One console.
Microsoft recently shared some statistics about the high number of engagement hours Xbox One players have been playing their games. While it’s nice to see how many people are playing games, Microsoft still didn’t share specific numbers about sales figures.
The Verge wanted to know how many Xbox One consoles have been sold recently, but Microsoft continued to stay quiet on the matter. A Microsoft spokesperson just said the following statement: “We are continuing to look at engagement as our key metric for success and are no longer reporting on total console sales. We continue to see strong growth with time spent on Xbox Live, and look forward to bringing more unprecedented experiences on Xbox One, Windows 10 PC and mobile.”
Microsoft actually stopped reporting on total sales figures for the console several years ago. It sounds like the company is not changing its mind two years later which is a bit of a shame.
