It looks like Treyarch is not going to work on a new sub-series for the Call of Duty franchise. This is because it’s being reported that the next COD game coming out later this year will be none other than Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
Multiple sources confirm to Eurogamer that this year’s Call of Duty game will be Black Ops 4. This follows a tweet from known leaker Marcus Sellars who also confirmed that this year’s game is another Black Ops title.
Marcus Sellars posted the following about the new game: “COD 2018 is Black Ops 4 and is coming to PS4/Xbox/PC/Switch. It is set in the modern times and is boots on the ground. The Switch version will support DLC, HD Rumble and motion controls. The Switch version is also being ported by a company which is familar with COD games.”
This may come as bad news for gamers that are wanting to see something different. Ironically, Call of Duty: WWII was successful last year mainly because a World War II setting hasn’t been explored in the video game industry for close to ten years now.
If this rumor is true, people that are sick of modern day settings in COD games might be disappointed. That said, you cannot deny the fact that Activision wants to continue the Black Ops franchise. The Black Ops franchise is second in popularity behind the original Modern Warfare trilogy.
Activision usually announces a new COD game each year in May, so it might be a few more months until we hear of any official confirmation. Since more than one source has confirmed the existence of Black Ops 4, it’s more than likely that this rumor is actually true.
