When Battlefront 2015 came out, the game was highly criticized for having no single player campaign, lack of content and forcing players to pay for more DLC packs. Despite all of that, the 2015 game is still going to sell more copies than Star Wars Battlefront 2.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 includes a single player campaign, free DLC and more content such as characters/vehicles from both the prequel and new movies. However, even with all the good news Battlefront 2 is still expected to sell less copies than the feature light Battlefront 2015.
The Wall Street Journal has reported that Star Wars Battlefront 2 is on track to sell between 10 million to 12 million units over its lifetime. This is not a bad number, although EA was hoping the game would sell more than its predecessor.
Battlefront 2015 released alongside Star Wars: The Force Awakens and still managed to sell over 14 million copies worldwide. You may think this is weird, although the main reason the sequel is selling lower than the first game is due to what happened on launch day.
Many of you will know that Battlefront 2 had a rough launch mainly due to the addition of annoying loot boxes and a controversial pay-to-win system in the online multiplayer mode. It was these two highly controversial features that prevented lots of gamers on buying the game.
Even though EA backtracked and removed the pay-to-win system, it was too late because EA lost a lot of potential customers. This put lots of other game developers and publishers on notice because anyone thinking of copying EA’s business model is sure to get a lot of feedback from gamers now.
Anyway, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is still a fun game if you manage to play it. The graphics and gameplay are still great and the free DLC means the game is constantly getting new updates.
