As you may know already, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has launched simultaneously on both the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. Which version looks and performs better?
Digital Foundry has uploaded a comparison video for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on both Wii U and Nintendo Switch. They only show footage of the first hour so spoilers are not shown.
Anyway in TV mode, the Wii U version is 720p while the Switch is higher at 900p. In portable mode, both games should run at 720p. The framerate is where things get interesting.
You would think the framerate is better on Nintendo Switch, but it’s kind of a tie. Sometimes the framedrop is lower on Wii U and sometimes it’s lower on the Switch instead. It depends on the area you are playing the game. Things might get more interesting when you reach further areas of the game.
In either case, the game is still great and the visuals are kind of identical on both versions. The Switch versions looks a bit smoother in the distance thanks to its 900p resolution. Digital Foundry does conclude that Wii U owners shouldn’t feel sad as the performance is not that bad when compared to the Switch.
