Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is out now in many cinemas around the world. The Box Office reports are coming in so now we should know how many people watched it this weekend.
Unfortunately, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter didn’t earn that much money in its opening weekend in North America. As reported by Deadline, the movie is on track to only earn $12.4 million this weekend. This is the lowest opening weekend in the film franchise’s history.
On a worldwide basis though, things are a little bit better. The movie has already earned $35 million in Japan and the total amount of Box Office takings should reach $70 million by the end of the weekend. The movie only had a modest budget of $40 million.
Thanks to the release of The Final Chapter, the Resident Evil franchise has become the most successful video game movie franchise. The franchise as a whole has earned over $1 billion worldwide since the first movie came out back in 2002. There are six movies in total.
