Nintendo have announced that a new Super Mario game will be released later this year, and this new title will be available exclusively on iOS devices. Set to be a timed-exclusive for iPhone and iPad, Super Mario Run was announced by Nintendo during today’s Apple press conference. The game looks to appeal to not only longtime Nintendo and Mario fans, but also cater to a new audience of gamer as an introduction to the Super Mario Bros. series and welcome children and adults to the world of Nintendo.
Requiring just one hand to play, Super Mario Run has Mario constantly moving forward through courses, and it is up to the player to tap the screen to assist Mario to make his way through the stage. Tapping the screen will cause Mario to jump, and you will need to time you jumps to overcome obstacles. Mario will behave different depending on the timing of your taps, so it’s up to you as to how you gather coins and reach the stage goal.
Super Mario Run offers three different game modes:
– The first mode features challenging courses for you to complete.
– In the second mode, you challenge the play data of other people’s completed courses. You compete to see who can finish the course with the most style!
– In the third mode, you can create your own Mushroom Kingdom using coins collected by playing the first two game modes.
iOS users will be able to download and enjoy a small taste of Super Mario Run for free when the title becomes available later this year, and will then be able to enjoy all the game has to offer after paying a set purchase price – no pricing details have been announced at this time. Super Mario Run has been developed with Shigeru Miyamoto serving as lead creator for Nintendo. Super Mario Run will be offered on the App Store this December in more than 100 countries, and in nine different languages.
