One of the biggest announcements of this year’s Gamescom is when Square Enix announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming exclusively to Xbox platforms. While that may disappoint a lot of fans who played the reboot on the PlayStation and PC platforms, many are hoping that it’s a timed exclusive title. Luckily, they are right as Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirmed that the Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusivity to Xbox “has a duration”.
Speaking to Eurogamer at Gamescom, Spencer said, “I have Tomb Raider shipping next holiday exclusively on Xbox. It is Xbox 360 and Xbox One. I’m not trying to fake anybody out in terms of where this thing is. What they do with the franchise in the long run is not mine. I don’t control it. So all I can talk about is the deal I have. I don’t know where else Tomb Raider goes.”
The length of the game’s exclusively to Xbox wasn’t revealed but we’re guessing it will be around one to two years. For fans who can’t wait that long, they have no choice but to get and play it on either the Xbox One or Xbox 360.
“Yes, the deal has a duration. I didn’t buy it. I don’t own the franchise.”
Rise of the Tomb Raider is scheduled for release Holiday 2015.

August 22, 2014 at 2:02 AMNothing in here indicates if the exclusivity is limited to the NA region only or it it applies also to EU and more specifically Japan where finding an Xbox anything is more rare than a day without people in the middle east shooting or blowing each other up.
Bet this applies to NA and EU only. Otherwise SE is going to have a lot of pissed JP customers and another shitty quarterly report.
