Starting tomorrow, the updated version of the Classic Controller for the Nintendo Wii will be made available to the public. Along with the Monster Hunter Tri review copy that arrived in our office, a Classic Controller Pro was sent along with the game. First impression on the Classic Controller Pro? DUALSHOCK 3!
The Wii Classic Controller Pro will be available in stores for $19.99. It is not wireless; just like the old classic controller, you will need to connect it to the Wii-Remote to use it. The color is black and it has a nice feel when holding it. One thing that I hate about the controller is its shiny aesthetic material. It’s a fingerprint magnet!
How is it similar to DUALSHOCK 3 Controller?
From the following comparison picture below, you would notice that the design of the Classic Controller Pro is very very similar to the DUALSHOCK 3 controller. The way the Classic Controller Pro feels when holding it is the same feeling you get when holding a DUALSHOCK 3 controller. The locations of both the face and shoulder buttons are the same along with the analog sticks and the Wii Home button in the middle. Basically, the Classic Controller Pro is inspired heavily by the DUALSHOCK 3 controller.
Would you buy it?
I strongly recommend to do so. Since the old Classic Controller is no longer being sold in the market, you will be forced to buy the Pro for games such as Monster Hunter Tri.

April 19, 2010 at 5:05 PMThat’s funny… because I was thinking that they just both look like Super Nintendo controllers with handles…

April 19, 2010 at 6:13 PMI don’t think its a Sony wannabe Because Nintendo has done hand grips in the past http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NES_Max and were the first to add L and R buttons. Also Nintendo had show cased the N64 would have a joystick. But Sony saw what Nintendo was doing and beat them to the market with two joysticks. Nintendo has every right to design this controller style because Sony has copied Nintendo from the start. Oh and hell ya I’m getting this with the Bundle of Monster Hunter Tri.

April 21, 2010 at 1:22 AMIt looks more like PS3 controller. Does it has white color ?
Bloop.
April 22, 2010 at 4:51 PMLooks nice, but that’s not as important as function. What I wanna know is HOW GOOD IS THE D-PAD??? I mean, if they’re going to phase out the old Retro flat version in favor of the Pro, it better have as good a D-pad, if not better than, the one on the original Classic.

May 1, 2010 at 10:37 AMI have the controller. It came with my MHtri. Its somewhat uncomfortable. The analogs easily slip and sometimes the button presses don’t work so well. Still its the best controller you’ll find on the wii so I recommend it. I played PS3 after a hour session of playing MHtri and the dualshock felt much more relaxing and comfortable. Dualshock is truly my favorite controller.
