The latest entry in the Rune Factory series released during the summer in Japan and just last month in the US to much praise and became the highest selling game in the franchise. However, we are sad to report that the series’ developer Neverland has ceased operations and will be filing for bankruptcy.
According to translations of the official Neverland website by Siliconera, Neverland feels that the changes in the business environment over the last few years have caused a very sluggish performance, leading to the deterioration of their financial status. They have tried to raise funds to stay afloat, but sadly they are shut down as of yesterday.
Neverland has also been responsible for games in the Shining Force and Lufia titles. There is currently no word on the future of either of those franchises, but series publisher Marvelous AQL did post an update to their blog about the future of Rune Factory.
Hello, Hashimoto here.
How are you guys enjoying Rune Factory 4?
I’d like to take this occasion to make a comment about the future.
As of now, it’ll still remain a secret as to what kind of title we’ll be releasing next, but I can say that the staff members are still doing great.
I will leave it at that for now, and I thank you for your continued support.
