Sony has revealed that the PS4 won’t support 3D Blu-ray playback at launch.
Sony revealed the following to Eurogamer:
Technically, the PS4 system supports 3D gameplay at launch on day one, though no launch titles are currently 3D compatible. 3D Blu-ray movies will not be compatible at launch.
This seems odd considering the PS3 console can play 3D Blu-ray movies just fine. Not to mention there are a ton of games available to play in 3D for the PS3 too.
Microsoft revealed the Xbox One cannot play 3D Blu-ray movies at launch too. This might suggest that “3D” isn’t a popular thing and both companies didn’t think it was necessary. Will the PS4 and Xbox One add 3D Blu-ray playback in the future?
