In what is no huge surprise, it now looks like the Nintendo Wii has officially ceased production in Japan and is considered discontinued according to their official website.
Just earlier this month it was noticed that the website listed the Nintendo console as “manufacturing is scheduled to end soon,” and end soon it did. Now the website has it officially listed as “discontinued” where it previously had the other status. This pretty much means that if you are in Japan and want to pick up a new Wii, you should probably get one from a retailer soon before they run out of their final stocks. Otherwise you will have to buy used.
Nothing has been announced about other countries’ production of the Nintendo console, so it is assumed that they will continue to produce the Wii for at least the near future.
