Blizzard announced earlier today that the auction house for Diablo 3 will be closing in 2014.
According to the email sent by Blizzard, Diablo 3 fans can expect the auction house to be shut down on March 18, 2014. One of the reasons behind the closure is “it ultimately undermines Diablo’s core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot,” John Hight, Blizzard Production Director, writes. “With that in mind, we want to let everyone know that we’ve decided to remove the gold and real-money auction house system from Diablo 3.”
With the upcoming release of the Reaper of Souls expansion for Diablo 3, the company believes with the closure of the auction house, it will create a “more rewarding game experience for our players” when it comes to the loot players will receive.
