As we brought to you yesterday, the upcoming Pokemon X and Pokemon Y will be bringing a completely new feature to the series that has never been seen before, Mega Evolutions. Now we have more information on how to achieve these forms along with a trailer for the game introducing them.
The Mega Evolutions are very different from any past evolutions in the series, as they are not permanent. Mega Evolutions are triggered if one of the Pokemon with a mega form is holding a specific item that allows them to transform to that form at the start of a battle. Once the battle is concluded, the Pokemon reverts back to its original form. We really don’t know how different these forms will be and how much more powerful it will make the player, but it has to be worth it for such a radical change to the series.
The new trailer shows off the transformation sequence for three of the Pokemon with the new form: Mewtwo, Lucario, and Blaziken. The other three that are currently known, Ampharos, Mawhile, and Absol, do not appear in this trailer. It does show footage of the three new Pokemon unveiled yesterday, but are unnamed in the trailer. However, we now know the English names for these are Bunnelby, Dedenne, and Skiddo. The trailer also shows off a new gym leader, Korrina, for the two games.
The last bit of important news in the trailer is that Torchic will be distributed for free to Pokemon X and Pokemon Y owners starting October 12. Torchic will be holding a Mega Stone, the item required to tranforms its third form, Blaziken, into the new Mega Blaziken.
Pokemon X and Y will be available worldwide on October 12. Please check out the new trailer below:
