Gamers who are seeking a real challenge in Tales of Xillia will find it in Magnus Zero as the toughest boss in the game lurks at the dungeon’s very depths. The Golden Mage Knight is the game’s most powerful foe that players will face in the game, although defeating them will be worth as you can get the most powerful weapons in the game.
As mentioned in our Magnus Zero guide, the Golden Mage Knight lies at the very depths of the dungeon. Those who wish to get the powerful weapons for all six characters must face the Knight:
Golden Mage Knight Tips
– In order to make things a lot easier and guaranteeing that you will not die in this battle is to make sure you are at least level 85-90 with all of the resistance skills, boosts in stats, and almost filled up Lillium Orb. Also, make sure you equip the best boosting stats that you can since it will help big time in this fight.
– Golden Mage Knight has three phases:
First Phase – You will only get to fight him and it may seem very easy. Keep doing a linking arte to do devastating damage on him.
Second Phase – When you get his HP down to zero, he will split himself up. You will now fight two Mage Knights that does different attacks. In order to make this phase easier, seek out the knight that does magic damage, which is the Conductor. The Mage Knight Conductor will do a lot of magic attacks that deals 4000-5000HP damage and the way he moves is fast. To counter or stop his attacks, make sure that you are using Jude’s arte that he learned from beating the game. That will knock the boss down and break his guard. In my playthrough, I linked up with Alvin.
Final Phase – The fight gets tougher as the Mage Knight now multiplies into three. Similar to the the second phase, find the ones that does the elemental artes as it’s the one that deals a massive amount of damage and can wipe out the party in an instant. Keep focusing in cancelling his attack by knocking down the “Creator” and the “Puppeteer”.
Your Reward
If you surpass the challenge, you are now worthy to receive the most powerful weapons in the game. Remember that Devil’s Arm weapons that you have received from the Six Beasts? The Golden Mage Knight will unlock its full potential allowing you to gain more power as you take down more enemies. It means that the more you take down enemies, the higher the base stats get. Those who are seeking to do 9999 damage in one punch from Jude is now possible with the unlocked Devil’s Arm weapon that you got!
That’s it! Congrats in taking down the toughest boss in the game. Now go get that Platinum Trophy!

August 23, 2013 at 5:40 AMbeat him at level 74 as my highest level. used Jude as my tank had about 7800 HP, Mila as a Damage Dealer, and 2 healers with Leia and Elize they only used buffs and healed the entire time.

August 23, 2013 at 11:10 PMActually, it’s QUITE possible to take him on even lower – I just did it twice with my characters being in the mid-60s. Granted, you need to be decently stocked on good items, but thanks to the enemies in Magus Zero, getting Hourglasses and Omega Elixirs isn’t that hard. Moreso if you’ve been saving up Black Feathers and been going to the trader.
Jude and Milla are going to be the main damage dealers and tanks; as the strategy says, focus on cancelling spells. Jude’s Snap Pivot is very useful here, though I equipped the accessory that nullified the Stun ailment on him so Goldie’s counters wouldn’t stun him for five seconds. You might want to invest in the Krona Symbol though, to gurantee that your PC won’t be confused. Tradeoff, that one.
Elize and Leia are the support team, much like hero’s description – HOWEVER they have slightly but very important roles. Leia’s tactic should be set to Prioritize Healing – Only Healing – Be Careful, and have no issue regarding TP usage. Elize on the other hand should be set like Leia but with Use Artes instead. Any well placed AoE spell from her (Ignite Terror or Negative Gate) helps rack up the gauge. Accessories – Leia used an accessory that cut down on TP costs to make healing easier, Elize wore one that cut her casting time down for backup healing and spamming AoE attacks.
Don’t be afraid to let them use items if need be – load up on Heavy Treats, Specific Plus, Omega Elixirs and BY GOD have at least one All-Divide on you. When the second phase begins it’s likely the Conductor and Duelist are going to rip people to shreds at the slightest mistake; All-Divide balances the fight back into your favor.
It’s going to be an incredibly LONG fight (25 minutes to almost an hour if the enemy decides to heal) but if you keep an attentive eye and keep on your toes, you can take this guy out as easily as the final boss.

August 24, 2013 at 8:43 PMIt was pretty easy for me. level 78 for everyone. I had Jude, Milla, Leia, and Elize. Jude and Milla did all the melee, Elize the artes, and Leia (set only to heal). And you pretty much just need 5 omega elixer for emergency and elixer and life bottles. and woolah, easy kill. Remember to use the hurricane linked artes (jude and Milla) because it’ll suck everyone in and it’ll do a whirlwind . Then use as much area artes.

November 24, 2013 at 11:08 PMGuessing some of you were playing on lower difficulties (including the guide writer, since you wrote to focus the conductor. On higher difficulties, that will just result in an endless battle, since the duelist will be spamming 20k health heals and you’ll only be dealing out damage in chunks of 2-4 thousand at best. You have to interrupt those heals.)
Also, how/why could you possibly miss that each of the forms are based off a member of your party? You fight Alvin first, then Rowen and Leia, then finally Mila, Jude, and Elize. I mean, come on. ‘The conductor’ should have given it away, if nothing else. ‘Find the ones that does the elemental arts?’ Without touching the broken english, the ones doing arts are, obviously, Rowen, Mila, and Elize.
Frankly, this battle’s not so bad on higher difficulties, but you gotta have Leia’s skill that allows single-target items to get the entire team. Suddenly, your elixirs are omega elixirs as long as Leia uses them. A good stock of auto-revival dolls (the name of the item escapes me) can definitely help as well. Though if you’re careful and don’t get caught out by any of the big spells, you really shouldn’t need a lot of items.
I know I’m quite late in giving advise on this battle, but regardless, my only advise is to wait until you’re maxed to attempt this. Not because it’s challenging, but it’s damn time consuming. You could easily spend 1-2 hours on it if you’re not putting out enough damage to get through all the heals being cast. I mean, if that’s your thing, then go for it at a low level, it’s not too bad; just clear your schedule for a couple hours beforehand. Other then that, keep in mind you can change your gear mid-fight. Switching to something with water resistance during the conductor is great, since he only seems to cast water and ice spells. He does use Diffisional drive, which heals, but only for a couple thousand; negligible, compared to 20k from Duelist. And the ice spells are pretty easy to dodge if you pay attention when he starts casting one.
