Ever since Sony dropped PlayStation 3 and Vita support, each months offerings have been met with more scrutiny. While most months have clear cut good or bad offerings, this is the first mixed month in a long time.
Current subscribers will be able to download Titanfall 2 and Monster Energy Supercross — The Official Videogame for free next week. While Titanfall 2 is widely considered a great game, will hopefully motivate more people to demand a Titanfall 3 and is easily one of the best offerings in a while, it isn’t the best value.
Unless you’re someone who routinely buys at the $35 or so price point or one of the lucky few that got it for $25, a year of PlayStation Plus is about $60 a year. This works out to being about $5 a month, which isn’t bad in the slightest, though Titanfall 2 is routinely on sale for around $6. So much so that there are even jokes on the Titanfall Reddit calling that normal price.
The issue for the community isn’t that the game is cheap, as much as it has been cheap for so long anyone remotely interested in it would’ve likely bought it. While there are undoubtedly some hold outs and this will revive, however briefly, the community, it isn’t as exciting an offering as last months Nioh or a number of other games.
What stands out isn’t just the negativity regarding a cheap game finally going free, as much as it taking the negativity away from Monster Energy Supercross — The Official Videogame. Normally this would be a game people would be less than thrilled about being added, yet it’s being ignored for the aforementioned concerns.
Regardless of how you feel about this “issue,” it still doesn’t take away from at least one of the games being good and something to enjoy next month.
