Activision is pleased to announce today that when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches next week, it will not have any loot boxes, but instead replace it with a Battle Pass similar to Fortnite.
According to Activision, the new Battle Pass system will allow players to see the content that they are earning of buying. The Battle Passes will launch timed to new, post-launch live seasons, so you can unlock cool new Modern Warfare-themed content that matches each season.
In addition, players will be able to earn COD Points by playing the game with the Battle Pass system. There will be both a free Stream and a Premium stream of content in the Battle Pass system. New base weapons will be earned through gameplay, by simply playing Modern Warfare. Functional attachments for base weapons can be unlocked through gameplay as well just in the game’s beta.
For cosmetic items, the Battle Pass and the In-Game store will feature a variety of cosmetic content that does not impact the game balance.
As for when the Battle Pass will be released, it will not launch when the game releases on October 25th. Fans can look forward to the Battle Pass sometime later this year.
With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare getting no loot boxes, many are hoping that the upcoming Battle Pass will be worth the wait and will provide a better value. We’ll have to wait after launch what Activision has planned for the Battle Pass.
