When it comes to MMORPGs and games like them, the most exciting part isn’t progressing through the story as much as seeing what you get to do after. Borderlands 3 is no different, though it might take you a while to finish the story.
What You Unlock
- True Vault Hunter Mode
- Mayhem Mode
- Guardian Rank
- Lilith’s Chest
New Modes
Like previous titles, finishing the story unlocks True Vault Hunter Mode. This works the same as previous versions. If you want to hit level 50, that mode is pretty much the only way to do it and it grants access to greater challenges. Mayhem mode adds some crazy modifiers and other things in exchange for more experience, cash and so forth. It’s worth doing if you want to see it all but not required. However, there are exclusive rewards to doing that mode too.
Guardian Rank
While you only start with one token, you can use them to buy various perks and rewards in Borderlands 3. These include unique skins, better drop rate and all kinds of fun things. They also work similar to Badass Rank, just with more customization and better rewards in the long run.
To gain more ranks, simply obtain experience and a new purple bar will show Guardian Token progress. It moves slightly faster than you’d think but still takes a decent amount of time to level. Reports also note Guardian Rank is account wide, meaning you don’t need to worry about bringing every character up as much as just building for them all.
Lilith’s Chest
Finally, in addition to whatever rewards you get for beating the last boss and the final area, you’re also given Lilith’s chest. I can’t confirm what others will get, but I got four legendary items which included Front Loader shield, Nova Berner shield, Dictator machine gun and Long Musket ++ SMG.
