One of the more interesting features in Borderlands 2 that was brought to Borderlands 3 was the ability to receive keys to open a special chest that had powerful loot. The keys were largely given away via promotional codes distributed by Gearbox themselves. While the keys themselves had little value months after release, they’re a fantastic resource for quicker progression or beating a tough boss during this time when everyone wants to see everything Borderlands 3 has to offer. And, to make things easier, Gearbox gave away six keys that can be redeemed by anyone.
Codes
- ZFKJ3-TT3BB-JTBJT-T3JJT-JWX9H
- HXKBT-XJ6FR-WBRKJ-J3TTB-RSBHR
- Z65B3-JCXX6-5JXW3-3B33J-9SWT6
- ZRWBJ-ST6XR-CBFKT-JT3J3-FRXJ5
How to Redeem
There are basically two ways to redeem these codes. You can either go into the games menu and manually enter them on the SHiFT code page or you can simply go to the website and paste them here. However, if you do it the latter way, you must link an Xbox Live and Steam account to your SHiFT account. They don’t need any actual content or real use, they just require an account. Reports indicate they can be redeemed in-game, even on different platforms, without linking an account, so it’s a pick your poison sort of deal.
Once you redeem the code, you’ll get your keys to redeem in Borderlands 3. This is done by going up to the gold chest on Sanctuary and using them to open it. If you’re having issues obtaining your keys after redeeming a code, you can try the steps here and you should get them.
Finally, keep in mind that rewards scale to your level. So unless you really want to test your luck or don’t want to wait to see what other weapons are out there in Borderlands 3, you’ll want to save them. Even a bad purple item can make a substantial difference and a lot of times it’s less about having the best gear and more about balance anyway.
