For years people have assumed we would eventually get a new Borderlands title. Sure, we recently got Borderlands 2 VR, plus at least two other ports, a somewhat spin off and Telltale game between then and now but it isn’t quite the same thing. Thankfully, it seems the wait might just be over or, should I say, the real wait is just beginning.
Yesterday, Gearbox’s official Twitter tweeted an image, done in Borderlands iconic style, with a sign post that reads March 28 and the location Boston MA. Considering that is the location and first day of this years Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) East, it seems quite likely that they will reveal something related to Borderlands at the convention.
To further speculation, many fans were quick to note that the exit sign seems to read three, an obvious reference to it being the third title in the series, with others taking it a step further. Some have noted March is also the third month, that 28 is only 2 digits away from 30 and others pointed out it was suspiciously tweeted at 3 p.m., ignoring the fact that you have to be in EST for that to be true and noon is a common time for news to go out.
Shortly after it was also retweeted by Randy Pitchford, with the message “I am excite.” Given his association with the franchise, it furthers speculation that we will see something fun at PAX East.
Whatever the announcement is actually for, hopefully it will live up to peoples’ expectations. Let’s hope, if nothing else, the title has all the charm and fun the originals had, without it joining the growing list of loot shooters that did well but not well enough. Or, at least releases without an absurd amount of DLC, microtransactions and other choices that have become overly common in the years since the original released.
