Nintendo should be happy with the current sales that the Nintendo Switch console is currently getting because it’s overshadowing the Wii U at the moment. It could go on to become one of Nintendo’s best selling consoles of all time if the pace does not slow down.
As announced on its official website, the Nintendo Switch console has now sold over 17.79 million units as of March 31st, 2018. This is close to around 4 million units more than the entire number of units that the Wii U mustered over its short lifespan. The Wii U only sold 13.56 million units so far.
In a few month’s time, the Switch should also be able to sell more units than both the Nintendo Gamecube and the Nintendo 64. It still a long way to go if it wants to overtake the original Wii though which sold an amazing 100 million units over its lifespan.
In terms of software sales, over 68.97 million video games have been sold thus far. Some of the best selling recent games includes Splatoon 2 with 6.02 million units, Zelda: BOTW with over 10 million units across Switch and Wii U, and Xenoblade 2 selling over 1.3 million units thus far.
