Both the Battlefield and Call of Duty series used to be the kings of online multiplayer gaming, but a shift happened last year thanks to both PUBG and Fortnite. The latter two video games added the Battle Royale genre and it looks like their success is causing many other game developers to take notice.
As reported by Charlie Intel, Kotaku and Eurogamer, sources tell all three websites that there is a main reason why Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 does not have a single player campaign. The single player campaign may have been put off in favor of a new Battle Royale mode instead.
Sources say that Treyarch is hoping Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Battle Royale mode will have 100 players, although it sounds like the mode will not be available to play at launch. It’s more than likely that the mode could be added in the future as a free update for owners of the game.
Call of Duty is not the only franchise jumping on the Battle Royal bandwagon. A report from Venture Beat says that DICE is also working on a Battle Royale mode to be included in Battlefield 5. The mode is in a prototype stage and will only release the mode if they are happy with the final build.
If everything goes well, Battlefield 5 could also be getting the Battle Royale mode as a free update post launch. If both Battlefield and Call of Duty add Battle Royale modes, PUBG and Fortnite will have even more competition in their hands!
