God of War on PS4 just came out a few days ago and it has already been selling like hotcakes over in the UK as its the fastest selling game in the franchise thus far. With the way things are going at the moment, there’s a chance it could become the best selling game in the entire franchise since the first game came out back in 2005 as a PS2 exclusive.
GamingBolt had a chance to talk to Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pacther and he made some bold predictions for the game’s success. Due to the amount of great reviews and positive word of mouth, the game could be one of the best selling PS4 exclusives since over 70 million PS4s have been sold around the world.
Here’s what Pacther says about God of War’s possible success: “I think 10 million units sounds like a low bar for it, actually. Last that Sony announced, there were 70 million PS4s out there, so 10 sounds really reasonable. I’d say realistically, it could do as many as 20 million. Now that’s hard, because not everyone who has a PS4 will like an action game like God of War. But I’d say between 10 and 20 million, and I’d say 10 million is a low estimate. I think they will absolutely do 10 million [over the game’s lifetime]”
Personally, I feel over 20 million copies might be a bit of a stretch since it’s a PS4 exclusive. This could be doable if it was available on more platforms. 10 million seems like a more reasonable benchmark as Uncharted 4 sold around 9 million copies back when it came out in 2016.
