Fortnite is the most popular online video game and cross play is soon going to be possible. PS4 players can play against gamers on PC, Mac and mobile devices. Likewise Xbox One players can also play with PC, Mac and mobile device gamers. However, PS4 and Xbox One players aren’t allowed to integrate and Sony might be to blame for this.
Kotaku received an email from a Microsoft representative and the company fully believes in cross play between console gamers. Epic Games via the official Fortnite Twitter page is also supportive of cross play between PS4 and Xbox One players.
Anyway, here’s what the Microsoft rep emailed to Kotaku: “Microsoft has long been a leading voice in encouraging the adoption of cross-platform play and the potential of connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles. We’ve worked closely with Nintendo to allow cross-network play between Xbox One and Switch and our offer to do the same with PlayStation players still holds. For any other questions regarding ‘Fortnite’ cross-network play between Xbox and PlayStation, please reach out to Epic or Sony directly“.
Kotaku wanted to see comments from both Sony and Epic Games, but they didn’t respond yet. Judging by the comment above from Microsoft and the tweet from the Fortnite Twitter page, it surely sounds like Sony is the only one preventing cross play to occur between PS4 and Xbox One players. Hopefully Sony changes its stance on cross play in the near future…
