Before 2007, pretty much every FPS was set during World War II. That all changed once Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 came out and everyone did modern and/or future settings after that. Now it seems like old settings are getting a comeback thanks to the releases of both Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: WWII.
Those two video games were set during World War 1 and World War II respectively and gamers embraced the past. This is because both games sold millions of copies and were well received by both critics and gamers alike. Now it seems retro settings are becoming the norm because Battlefield 5 might also be set during the World War II time period.
According to a report from VentureBeat, anonymous sources say EA is going to release Battlefield 5 later this year and it will be a World War II setting. The first working title for the game was ‘Battlefield 2’, but they changed it to not confuse people with the original version of Battlefield 2.
It’s also worth mentioning the report says this will not just be a remake of Battlefield 2. Battlefield 5 will be an all-new game in itself, so it will only share the same World War II setting as the older games and nothing else more than that.
Some sad news from today’s rumor is that it sounds like Bad Company 3 is not getting developed soon. However, DICE is still interested in making the sequel, so fingers crossed something comes into fruition in the near future. Bad Company 2 is still considered by many to be the best ever Battlefield video game ever made.
